Our fall 2009 meeting was held at the Red Hook Brewery meeting hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on October 19, 2009. . Jim Miller, MCPF hosted two very informative afternoon classes (Object mounting with clear film, and adhesives in the shop). 32 attended

There was a one hour “Meet and Greet” session where members and perspective members mingled, had appetizers, voted for popular choice, and talked with the 13 vendors that were set up with tables.

The evening meeting had 54 attendees, and included door prizes, future meeting info, print competition judging and critique, new board members nominated, and an “Ask a dumb question” panel; which was a smash success. This may become a regular feature of our future meetings. The panel members included Rich Riman, Harry Gaston, CPF, and Jim Miller, MCPF

Jim Miller, MCPF will be offering two afternoon workshops, and the general meeting and print competition will be at 6pm. The evening meeting will also feature our “Ask A ‘Dumb’ Question” panel, moderated by Jim Miller, MCPF. To register for the workshops, contact Rich Riman, CPF at The Frame Man 781-963-4552

Workshop A: 1pm Jim miller, MCPF will show us how to use clear polyester film to secure paper and objects within a frame. These conservation methods allow us to support pieces without using adhesives in contact with the art. Jim will cover encapsulation and more complicated supports for mounting items such as medals, tassels, coins, newspapers, books, playing cards, dog tags, glass bottles, and more.

Workshop B: 4:30pm In the second workshop, Jim Miller will describe the wide variety of adhesives which are available for use in the frame shop, and help us to sort out the best for various applications. He will cover the health, safety, and conservation aspects of the various adhesives.

The evening program starts at 6pm, and all are welcome. Featuring sponsor/vendor tables, the print competition, Q&A panel, critique, etc.

Evening Panel: There really are no “Dumb” questions – just questions which we feel dumb about when we don’t have immediate answers. Bring, or send in your questions and a panel moderated by Jim Miller, MCPF and consisting of Bob Warshawer, MCPF, Rich Riman, CPF, John “Harry” Gaston, CPF, and Dave Smith, CPF will provide their best “smart” answers. They may even have some questions they need answers to!

To register for the afternoon workshops, please contact Rich Riman.
