After our tour of the Small Corp.’s facility we will reconvene just a few miles away at Tayor’s Tavern for some socializing and networking with our fellow framers.

About Small Corporation

Molly and Van Wood founded SmallCorp in 1972 in an old mill in Newmarket, New Hampshire. They started out fabricating acrylic boxes and display covers for frame shops, artists and galleries in the Northeast. In 1975 the line grew to include welded aluminum frames, hardwood frames and pedestals , and in 1976 Molly and Van built a small manufacturing building on their property in Berwick, Maine, and began to focus on design and manufacturing solutions to meet the needs of conservators, museums and artists.

In 1987, the company built a new 36,000 square foot energy-efficient building in Greenfield, Massachusetts. In 1990, SmallCorp introduced custom-made aluminum honeycomb support panels and microclimate display cases. Hoyt Wood joined the family firm in 1991 as Plant Manager. Molly and Van began semi-retirement in 2012 and Hoyt became part owner and Managing Director, overseeing day-to-day operations.

In 2008, SmallCorp installed a 100Kw photovoltaic system on its roof to supply its electrical power. This was the culmination of a 20-year process to reduce our energy and resource demands. Our commitment to conservation means the conservation of all our resources-natural and cultural. We continue to look for better ways to use resources wisely and preserve our shared cultural heritage and welcome your ideas and insights. In the spring of 2015 we added an additional 100Kw of solar panels to our roof, making SmallCorp a net energy generator and ensuring that our entire manufacturing process is based on green power.

Framer’s CPR – A Day of Conservation, Preservation & Restoration

NEPPFA Fall Event
The New England Professional Picture Framers Association will hold it’s third and final event of 2017. This event is will offer educational seminars, a vendor table top showcase, door prizes, PRINT Competition judging and awards presentation, the awarding of the Warshawer CPF Scholarship, annual elections for the Board of Directors and networking, idea sharing, and friendship.

Educational Seminars:
Three conservators will give presentations about working with canvas, textiles, and works on paper.

Meeting Day Itinerary:

Camille Breeze

Camille Breeze of Museum Textile Services

Camille Myers Breeze began her conservation career in 1989 at the Textile Conservation Workshop in South Salem, New York. After earning a BA in Art History from Oberlin College, Camille received an MA in Museum Studies: Costume and Textiles Conservation from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She spent five years in the Textile Conservation Laboratory at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City before moving to the Textile Conservation Center at the American Textile History Museum, in Lowell, Massachusetts. Camille founded Museum Textile Services in 1999 as a full-service textile conservation studio serving museums, historical societies, and private collectors. Museum Textile Services conservation and exhibition collaborations have received awards from the AAM, AASLH, NEMA, and Maine Preservation. In 2015 she co-founded the Andover Figures® line of custom museum forms for conservators and collections specialists.

Camille is a Fellow of the AIC and is a member of both the Latin American Scholarship Committee and Ethics and Standards Committee. She has been a NEMA Independent Museum Professional Co-Chair and she served on the board of the NECA from 2005 to 2011. Camille is an instructor at the International Preservation Studies Center and has taught elsewhere in the United States, the Dominican Republic, and Peru. In 2009, Camille received a grant from the U.S. Department of State to consult with museums in the Dominican Republic on issues of textile conservation. An author of numerous journal articles, Camille published A Survey of American Tapestry Conservation Techniques in 1999, and wrote a chapter in the award-winning 2013 catalog Picturing Enlightenment: Tibetan Tangkas in the Mead Art Museum at Amherst College. She is collaborating on a forthcoming book about textiles at the Peruvian site of Huaca Malena. Curriculum Vitae

Matthew W. Jones

Matthew Jones of The Green Dragon Bindery

Matthew has a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts, class of 1991.

Matthew began his apprenticeship at the bindery in 1993 and has been here ever since. His interests include fine arts, antiquities and Japanese Martial Arts.
“It is a great privilege to be entrusted with so many rare and unique objects from the past. Conserving and restoring them allows me to use my skills as an artist, as a historian and sometimes as an alchemist. Matching old colors, paints and dyes account for half of my work.”

NEPPFA Framing Competition

In addition to the PPFA International PRINT Competition NEPPFA will be holding our very own framing competition to be held in October of this year. This will not be connected to or in place of either of the PPFA International Competitions. This one is for us and for a little local friendly competition. The details are being finalized and we expect to announce the details at Frame-Con 2017.

A great event today in Portsmouth, NH!


Meg Glasgow gave two inspiring presentations, and there was an evening business and marketing panel.  The presentations included “10 STEP FRAMESHOP MAKEOVER”, and “PICTURE PERFECT DESIGNS TO INCREASE SALES”.  More than 50 showed up for this fun filled day of framing information and networking.

One position remains available and we are looking for another retail director to serve on the board.

Educational Seminars:

Meg Glasgow, owner of Finer Frames, is a nationally recognized consultant in the art and framing field, and winner of Larson Juhl’s first Design Star competition. She travels widely in the U.S., presenting sales and marketing seminars for small businesses, and has published a book entitled “Meg on Marketing, A Self-Help Guide for Small Business Success.” At home, Meg serves on the Eagle Arts Commission. She was named Meridian’s 2005 Woman of the Year, a finalist in the Idaho Woman Entrepreneur of the Year program for 2004, and her business was chosen as the Meridian Small Business of the Year in 2002. Finer Frames received the top distinction with the Top 100 Art & Framing Retailers Award in 2003.
